Distressing is a way of ageing a piece of furniture to
create scratches that would occur naturally over the years. I concentrate
on the areas that would get the most wear and tear, such as edges, corners
and around handles. Water based paints are used and 2 or 3 coats of
varnish are then applied to protect the furniture.
It is particularly successful with old junk pieces or
orange pine furniture that would be found in the spare room somewhere!
It has a timeless appeal.
